Why Book A City Break In Peterborough?
With changes occurring all the time with travel and other countries, a staycation in the UK is looking like a safe way to travel and avoid the risk of 2 weeks isolation on your return. City breaks in the UK are becoming more and more popular, and so they should be. The UK has so much to offer. Tourists come from all over the world to see what we have on offer, but we are flying all over the world and missing what is on our doorsteps.
In this blog post we would like to share with you why we think you should book a city break in Peterborough.
So, let’s start with the basics about Peterborough. It’s a rapidly growing city in the heart of rural east England. Peterborough is bordered by Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. The city has an important place in the history of Britain but the modern-day Peterborough is prospering too. It’s a great city and we are extremely passionate about it.
Peterborough Cathedral is over 900 years old and has some fascinating stories from it’s history in the city centre. You can visit the cathedral for free or pay just £2 to take photos of the cathedral when you are inside. The ceiling and architecture are stunning. These are some well-known people buried here too. In the summer months the cathedral offers rooftop tours where you can climb the steps all the way to the top and look out over Peterborough. On a clear day you can even see Ely Cathedral!
Queensgate Shopping Centre
Whether you’re looking for well known shops, fashions stores, independent shops or something quirkier, Queensgate shopping centre ticks all your boxes. There are a wide selection of well-known chain coffee shops and some fantastic indie coffee shops too. Peterborough city centre is a road-traffic free area. This allows the restaurants and cafes in the city to offer outdoor dining. You will find lots of benches, street performers and open spaces to relax in. The fountain area by the old courthouse is a lovely area to sit and relax. This is even more so the case in the evening when the fountains are lit up.
In Peterborough we are lucky enough to have 3 main theatres, along with a few smaller ones too. We have some incredible performances, comedians, plays, shows and events that travel the UK and visit Peterborough. We have one cinema with luxury reclining seating (when you visit you’ll see exactly what we mean). There is a bowling alley, numerous Escape Rooms, laser force and much more. You will also find late night pubs, bars and clubs to dance the night away to your favourite tunes.
I think it’s safe to say that food wise, whatever you want – we have it! From your classic Nandos, Pizza Express and Middletons right through to Russian, vegan and Thai restaurants. You can even have your dinner on a boat if you choose! We are lucky enough to have a chef called Damian Wazniak in Peterborough too at the House of Feasts. He has cooked with Mary Berry and cooked his polish delicacies for the Royal Family.
